A Taper Pipe End Forming Machine is a specialized metal forming machine used to reduce or reshape the end of a pipe or tube into a conical (tapered) shape without removing material. The process is achieved by applying hydraulic or servo-controlled force through specially designed dies.
Unlike machining, which cuts away metal, end forming plastically deforms the pipe, maintaining its strength while producing a precise taper.
Working Principle
The machine operates through the following steps:
- Pipe Loading
- The pipe is placed in the clamping fixture.
- Position is adjusted according to the required taper length.
- Clamping
- Hydraulic or pneumatic clamps firmly hold the pipe.
- Forming
- A forming die moves over the pipe end.
- Hydraulic cylinders or servo motors apply controlled pressure.
- The pipe end gradually reduces to the desired diameter.
- Release
- The die retracts.
- The clamp opens.
- Finished pipe is removed.

Types of Taper Forming
1. Single-End Taper
One end of the pipe is tapered.
Applications:
- Furniture
- Automotive tubes
- Bicycle frames
2. Double-End Taper
Both ends are tapered.
Applications:
- Structural tubing
- Exhaust systems
- Hydraulic pipes
3. Long Taper
Used where gradual reduction is required.
Applications:
- Fluid transfer
- Aerospace
- Special fittings
4. Short Taper
Steeper reduction over a shorter distance.
Applications:
- Tube insertion
- Ferrule connections
